RIDGELAND – An ordinary night at Sportsmen’s Bar & Grill turned into one for the ages as Joe Diedrich took home an unprecedented $4.75 in his weekly Dirty Clubs game.
Diedrich found himself in an early hole as he was set three times in a loss putting him down $1.00. To make matters worse, he had the lowest score after the first game which meant he had to buy the first round for the table.
“The night started rough,” Diedrich said while waiting for his 1997 Chevy Silverado to warm up, “but luckily I had just gotten that first round in while it was still Happy Hour. So to me that kind of canceled things out.”
As the night progressed, Diedrich started getting hot—and was up $3 as the fifth round of the night was being bought. Going into the final game, Diedrich found himself in rarefied air as his winnings had amounted to $5.50. His opponents got anxious and even resorted to teaming up on Diedrich.
“If he would have ended the night with more than $5 we would never have heard the end of it. We had to do something,” Al Shutz said while calmly sipping from his PBR tall boy. Their wicked ploy worked, but Diedrich still went home with a whopping $4.75.
“It was a night to remember,” Diedrich said, “but I ain’t telling Milly about any of it.”
